Mrs McCutcheon

Short Film/LGBTQIA+, Australia 2018

Having always felt he was born in the wrong body and now at his third school, 10-year-old Tom is having trouble settling in and finding acceptance from his newfound peers – but a school dance is about to revolutionize it all. A warm and heartfelt story, it brings to life the realities of young people who do not feel comfortable with their social and gender categorisation, and highlights different perspectives. The film has been nominated at 140 film festivals worldwide, including the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) for Best Short Film, and has won several other awards, including the Gympie Gold Award at the 28th Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival, the Grand Prize for Best Director at the 33rd Hamburg International Short Film Festival, and Best Director and Best Young Actor (Wesley Patten) at the 2018 Australian Directors' Guild Awards.
